The feeling of guilt is a powerful one. We fell responsible, we feel condemned we fell that we deserve punishment. It can make us ill, depressed , unable to relate to people. It really needs sorting out! However, there are two types of guilt-real guilt and false guilt! How can we tell the difference? How can we learn to handle them? False guilt is when we feel responsible for. It can be like a feeling of shame, without perhaps even knowing exactly what we feel bad about. It can lead to depression, even suicide. It may be a shadowy nagging feeling of guilt, about nothing in particular. How can it arise? Maybe, as children, we had a very strict childhood. There were many things we were not allowed to do. Perhaps we were often punished for very small things. Supposing, for instance, that it was regarded as a real bad sin not to wash hands before a meal. Even now, years later, we may fell real guilt and shame, if we don’t wash our hands before eating! We may always feel bad about ourselves in other ways. We have a negative picture of ourselves and what we can achieve. So we find it easy to blame ourselves for things that go wrong, or accept blame from others when it is not deserved. People who survive a bad accident or disaster, in which others were killed or injured, very often feel guilt that have survived. This can be a very strong feeling A sad result of being abused emotionally, physically, or sexually, as children or young people, is that we feel guilt and shame for these terrible actions. Which we had no control over. Is there an answer to this sort of guilt? Yes! It may take time to work through. It may need advice from a counselor or other professional. Or maybe, just talk it through with a trusted friend. What can bring healing? First, allowing the truth into your life. Someone said,(do you know who?),The truth will set you free. You are not guilty! Say it to yourself, every time the feeling comes! However, that same person also said and did some key things which can bring healing-see lower down this page. |

We live in a world filled with microbes, which are microscopic creatures such as viruses and bacteria. A spoonful of dirt contains billions of them. And from your head to your toes, inside and out, you are home to even more microbes. Trillions of them! Most are harmless. Many are good-they help us digest our food, for example. But some can make us sick. We call these bad ones germs. Doctors call them pathogens(path-eh-jens). Germs can enter our bodies through the nose or other openings or through a cut un the skin. But if germs are all around us, why aren’t we always sick? Most of the time our bodies do an amazing job of fighting off germs. But if you haven’t been getting enough sleep or eating right, your resistance-the ability to fight off illness-slips, and it becomes easier for germs to mount a sneak attack. Sometimes we get sick just because there’s a though bug on the loose. That happens almost every winter, when the flu goes around. Ever wonder why kids, especially little kids, seem to get sick more often than grownups? One reason is that their bodies have not yet mastered the art of recognizing and battling common germs. ”Like soldiers who need training, our body’s defenders-the cells of the immune system-must learn to recognize germs,” explains Dr. Sujana Chandrasekhar, “As we get older, our soldiers get better at fighting infections, and we become immune to many of the germs that made us sick as toddlers.” |

You know this fact better than anyone else dose: kids are busier than ever before. The amount of homework has increased, and so has involvement in after-school activities. Kids feel pressure to do well in school and to keep up with music lessons and other actives. But health experts say most kids hectic schedules leave out one of the most important activities: exercise. “It’s a myth that kids get enough physical activity,” says gym teacher Andy Schmidt, who was named Teacher of the Year by the National Association for Sport and Physical Fitness. “Kids’ lives are busy, but they don’t get the exercise time needed to stay healthy.” Alarming reports released last year by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services show that nearly half of all young people in America are not vigorously active on a regular basis. This trend is a big factor in the rising rate of obesity among kids. School budgets cuts and more emphasis on preparing for tests have led many schools to cut down on gym and recess time. Now more than 25% of students get no physical education in school. Staying fit is a key element to maintaining your health. “We only get one body, so we have to learn to take care of it at an early age,” says Dr. Charles Capetta, a pediatrician at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinic in Nashua, New Hampshire. Exercise helps build and maintain healthy bones, muscles and joints. It also prevents or delays the development of health problems that affect adults, including high blood pressure and heart disease. Besides yielding medical benefits, staring fit means you have more energy to keep up with your packed daily schedule. Exercise can also help you relax, respond better to stress and build self-confident. It’s not necessary to be involved in competitive sports to stay in shape. The good news riding bikes or Rollerblading with your friends count too. “Have fun, and do what you enjoy,“ says Schmidt. “ If you find an activity you really enjoy, you will stick with it.” |
